AFR 2008 Summary
Thank you to everyone that was able to attend, for shortening your trips, coming even though you didn't feel well and helping to make this a great event.
Thank you to everyone that cooked, brought something to share and basically contributed in making it a special day.
Thank you to our gracious hosts, Lav, Ursula, Ethan & Aiden, for offering up your home, your yard and your hospitality. It was more comfortable (and definitely more convenient) to be at your home. Thank you Mitch for not killing me on your spike that nearly crushed my trachea (aka windpipe). I think I still have "St. Lucia" tattooed to my neck
. Thank you to Lav for breaking out the best game anyone could ever buy for a $1 at a flee market. Pit rules. Its like being on a trading floor, except you don't get rich, only horse. :)
Thank you to Jon, Joe & Jared for making the great Portuguese cd's. I think everyone including myself would love a copy.
Thank you to Lav for breaking out the home movies. It was special to see what life was like (when people had hair, joke), when the cousins were young or not yet born and Avo & Ava were still ruling the dynasty.
Thank you for leftovers, as I had a great lunch today and will have another great lunch tomorrow. Goat, baccalou, bifanas, rice w/ shrimp/scallops, etc...
Thank you to Cesar for making the best Portuguese-American Chop Suey anyone's ever tasted.
Thank you to Liz for bringing the Accordion. Everyone was excited for it, but it just didn't happen this year. Next year. :)
Thank you to Ethan & Aidan for the great signs.
Thank you to Chuck for helping me w/ those water balloons as you cut the time in half.
Thank you Diane for those Italian cookies. mMm good. reminded me of the north end.
So many thank you's so little time.
To my cousins with young children, babies & toddlers. Your kids are gorgeous and smart.
*its official, after creaming everyone like an out of control whip cream party, Nancy finally was beaten at the quick drops of Lav in Connect 4. (pending results of his drug test).
*Tio Dennis IS the best presunto carver out there.
*designer casts, scars and stitches were all the rave this year. Thanks for giving me a heads up: Jon, Fred, Jared, Dennis, Timmy...I've got crutches I could have brought.
O.K. while its fresh in your minds, please reply to me:
*any suggestions to make the biggest event of the year better.
*Shall we save the date for next years party on the 3rd or 4th saturday of July,
*any want to host next year or shall I look into reserving another pavillion some where.
*are we ready for a beach reunion or shall we wait a few more years?
Please reply to all any fun stories, point of views or thank you's you'd like to share.
p.s. enjoy the video from this year's AFR.

Recorded music provided, but we in Boston are definitely lacking Portuguese music, so...any family members that have some great folk/dancing music, please bring/burn some cd's to share.
Live music provided Elizabeth (accordion), Abilio (Harmonica), Tio Americo (spoons), Tia Helena & Lia (tamborine), and vocals by the Nogueira girls.
O.K. so maybe there's not going to be any live music, but a guy can hint, can't he. :)
Directions to Lav & Ursula's to follow.
Plan on bringing the same food items you did last year. I think there's a list somewhere, either cousin Dennis or maybe Diane has or maybe its me, I'll look.
Food can be dropped off a day early and any other "FuN" items you want to bring.
I'll proudly be wearing my Red AFR SHIRT and maybe you will too.
That's about it. Very much looking forward to catching up with everyone, talking nonsense and having the best of times.

The "Retro Sports T" Style is back! Mike, Josef, Jonathan, and I wore them at the reunion.Familia Alves Ropa
Portugal won their group, defeating Turkey and Czech Republic, losing only to Switzerland in a meaningless match, during which most of
Portugal's starters were rested. Unfortunately, they entered the pitch flat against a beatable Germany in the Quarter Finals, to lose
Greetings and H-E-L--L--O to Daylight Savings Time starting early! How awesome was it to have sunlight @ 6:30pm two days in a row? Wow! Call me crazy, tell me simple things for simple minds, but it was EXCITING! Doesn't it feel good? Can someone please give me an amen or high five (dennis, where are you?)?
O.K. Next subject. Did you all receive your invitation to Jared's new Alves Family Tree by Geni? Its pretty cool. No Portuguese music or pictures yet, but man is it fancy. I was playing around, updating my profile, & checking out some of the tabs. Its crazy that my dad is #9, but even crazier that grandfather (Paizenu-however you spell it) was one of like 18 (Tio Dennis told me that). Can you believe that? 18 Kids our great grandmother gave birth too. WOW, now that's an Alves Dynasty! That's crazy. He said when you live on a farm, you need workers & if you can't afford to hire help, you create your own staff. Whoa. Hey female cousins, how do you feel about giving birth to 18 kids? :)
Anyways, maybe Jared can give us a little features and benefits summary to this new site. What do you think cuz?
Last subject. How is Saturday, July 26th for this years AFR at Look Park?
Cousins, please check with your parents and send me an e-mail by Friday. Thanks. :)
There were 3 pavilions left when I called to check, so the sooner y'all get back to me, the sooner we can plan ahead.
Great. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you all and seeing you soon. Maybe Easter if not sooner.
Thanks to Time Magazine I found www.geni.com that allows an individual to create a family tree and link to relatives at no cost. I have sent out e-mails, but if you do not receive one and wish to add to the tree then e-mail me at: scoreJ6@hotmail.com
